120-installment debt settlement programme succesfully completed, Vroutsis says

The programme of the 120-installment debt settlement for debts to social security funds was succesfully completed, Labour Minister Yiannis Vroutsis said on Tuesday.

Specifically, 432,599 debtors were included in the programme, or roughly one third of all debtors, while the amount, according to conservative estimates of the Centre for Debt Collection, will exceed 4.5 billion euros.

"Our government's aim is through a mix of different economic policies, reduced taxes and contributions and amid an ever-expanding economy, a growing job market, falling unemployment and above all a fair and reciprocal social security system, to avoid the creation of new debts to insurance funds, as in the past. Every conscientiousness of each citizen and company regarding their obligations to the state is the best and safest guide for the future," he said.
