Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who is visiting the region of Evros on Tuesday, was warmly welcomed by the citizens of the northeastern Greek city of Alexandroupolis on his arrival.
"Our morale is high and we are doing our job, with society united as this is a national effort. Nobody will enter illegally," Mitsotakis said and sent a clear message that Greece can't be coerced and will not be blackmailed. The borders of Greece are the borders of Europe," he added.
Both Evros and the region of Thrace were "standing tall", the prime minister noted and he thanked the armed forces, the security forces and the citizens for lending their support.
Mitsotakis was accompanied by National Defence Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos, Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrisochoidis and Minister of State and government spokesperson Stelios Petsas.
The prime minister's second stop during his tour of Evros was at the border post in Feres, where he was briefed on the situation along the border in Evros.
The border police said that the greatest pressure has now been transferred to southern Evros while they reported that 1,000 people tried to enter Greece en masse during the night but they were thwarted in their attempt.
During the briefing it was reported that Turkish authorities are transporting people in buses to specific points in order to increase the pressure put on the Greek borders. The Greek authorities are supervising all entrance points and have control of the situation, they said.
The prime minister thanked the volunteers-guards of the Evros Delta that came to meet him.
