The 84th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) began in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki on Saturday, with India as the honoured country. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who arrived in the city on Friday, paid a visit to the trade exhibition and toured the pavilions and stands on Saturday morning. He is to deliver the customary prime minister's speech on the government's economic policy at the Vellidio Congress Centre on Saturday evening.
According to government sources, the prime minister's aim is to make his speech targeted and specific, presenting his goals for the next 12 months rather than vague promises to be delivered over the government's full four-year term, and transform TIF "from a forum of promises to a forum of accountability".
Under the central slogan "Growth for All", Mitsotakis is expected to focus on four main areas of policy in his speech:
Taxation and tax policy, where he will outline planned tax cuts for individuals and businesses; investments, especially the unblocking of existing flagship investments (COSCO, Hellas Gold and Hellinikon) that will attract new investments to Greece; labour issues, with the protection of workers, support of full employment and creation of jobs; and the shift to a digital state that makes people's daily lives easier and simpler, cutting through red tape and supporting growth.
