Greece does not need a credit line after its "clean exit" from the memorandum in August 2018, SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance spokesperson Effie Achtsioglou said on Wednedsay, in an interview with public broadcaster ERT.
"It is self-evident that the country has no such need. The government has led Greece to a clean exit from the memorandum and this is the great difference. A clean exit means that the country, apart from meeting the agreed targets on primary surpluses, is otherwise free to plan its own policies; therefore we do not have the intervention of the institutions on issues of policy, just checks that targets are being met," she said. "New Democracy spoke of the need for a credit line back then as well and was proven wrong", she added.
Achtsioglou called on New Democracy to state clearly if it wants a return to the period of close surveillance and supervision. "Citizens understand that with the clean exit from the memoranda, from August onwards, we have no austerity measures, we are not under surveillance for the policies we are implementing, and were thus able to start implementing positive measures for society", she underlined.
She also said that the SYRIZA government found empty coffers in 2015 and today has built up a stock of about 35-36 billion euros.
