Silence in politics usually hides something and raise questions, stated government vice president Yiannis Dragasakis on Monday in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency radio station "Praktorio FM", referring to main opposition New Democracy's (ND) programme for the economy.
"We (SYRIZA) have a plan for the next four years, which has been worked out and has specific targets. What we hear from the other side (ND) are slogans about tax relief and lower taxes," said Dragasakis, adding that "there is no one, whether minister or citizen, that does not want lower taxes. The question is how you go about this."
Dragasakis pointed out that SYRIZA has also announced and implemented targeted tax cuts, while new tax cuts were included in the party's future programme. While ND was trying to cultivate the impression that overtaxation coincided with SYRIZA's arrival in power, and that taxes would automatically fall if SYRIZA was voted out, this was an outright lie, Dragasakis said. "The greatest volume of taxes - in terms of both quality and quantity - were imposed after the country's bankruptcy and its resort to the International Monetary Fund (IMF)," he added.
