Digital Policy, Communications and Media Minister Nikos Pappas on Wednesday referred to the reasons for SYRIZA poor showing in the European elections while speaking to ANT1, arguing that there was a "fatigue" in the population and that there had been a mistaken assessment that the relief measures that were would be "instantly absorbed by the economy and change people's mood."
He also referred to delays that affected the middle class, which had actually been "ruined" during the period 2010-2014.
On Syriza's prospect ahead of the upcoming general elections, Pappas said that approximately 600,000 people that did not participate in the European polls will turn up to vote in the general elections, adding that "a large number of citizens will make other selections that those made in the euroelections".
Pappas predicted that "the Greek people will not allow a turning back" and said that voting for New Democracy will "contribute to the political instability as it has not changed its mind about the policies of 2010-2014, when the IMF decided economic policy."
Moreover, Pappas underlined that there must be a televised debate between the prime minister and main opposition New Democracy's leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis - as Mitsotakis has promised" - as well as a debate between all the political leaders, adding that "a confrontation between the two main contenders for the prime minister's office is imperative".
